leukocyte count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate as diagnostic factors in febrile convulsion

چکیده
febrile convulsion (fc) is the most common seizure disorder in childhood. white blood cell (wbc) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (esr) are commonly measured in fc. trauma, vomiting and bleeding can also lead to wbc and esr so the blood tests must carefully be interpreted by the clinician. in this cross sectional study 410 children(163 with fc), aged 6 months to 5 years, admitted to bahrami children hospital in the first 48 hours of their febrile disease, either with or without seizure, were evaluated over an 18 months period. age, sex, temperature; history of vomiting, bleeding or trauma; wbc, esr and hemoglobin were recorded in all children. there was a significant increase of wbc (p

متن کاملAlterations of peripheral leukocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and C-reactive protein in febrile urinary tract infection.
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to assess the usefulness of peripheral leukocyte count, differential leukocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reactive protein (CRP) level in febrile urinary tract infection (UTI) for defining the UTI level. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 61 children aged between 1 and 10 years with documented febrile UTI (axillary temperature > or ...
متن کاملLeukocyte count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and diabetes incidence in a national sample of US adults.
Emerging data suggest that inflammation may play a role in the etiology of diabetes mellitus. Because few prospective studies have addressed this issue, the author examined the relation between leukocyte count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate and diabetes incidence using data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey Epidemiologic Follow-up Study (from 1971-1975 to 1992-1993)....

In their article entitled: “The decrease in erythrocyte sedimentation rate related to general anesthesia”, Clin Hemorheol Microcirc 35 (2006) 459–462, Caglayan and co-workers have investigated the effects of general anesthetic agents on erythrocyte properties, reflected in changes in the Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR). In their introduction the authors referred to the one-hour ESR method ...
متن کاملErythrocyte Sedimentation Rate in Cholera
The erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) has proved of the greatest use in the estimation of the activity or quiescence of chronic inflammatory disease. The mechanism of increase in the sedimentation rate is obscure, but experience has shown that the rate and amount of sedimentation is small when the destructive process is slight, and is markedly increased when the condition is active. Cholera ...
متن کاملC-reactive protein and erythrocyte sedimentation rate: Continuing role for erythrocyte sedimentation rate
Background: Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) tests are often done to detect or monitor patients with suspected inflammatory disorders. The objective of the study was to ascertain if the manual ESR test added value to the information available from automated CRP results alone. Methods: In this retrospective, observational study at a safety-net hospital, the ESR a...
